A unique memento of Scottish motor sport history SOLD
Price: £850.00
A photograph album belonging to 'Speed Queen' Kitty Brunel, being a record of her participation in the very first Scottish Rally of 1932. Kitty Brunel was a successful rally driver in the 1930's who took part in races in the UK and the Continent . Her father was a photographer and his presence as passenger as she took part in the Scottish Rally caused her disqualification due to rule that lady drivers must have female passengers only - a rule, incidentally, which Kitty had proposed! She knew this however, before she started as she explains in a newspaper article (included amongst the clippings) pasted into the album. Her father, W. J. Brunel took the photographs which appear in the album. Kitty drove an MG and there are c. 60 b/w photographs of the car at various stages around the course which took in a large part of the Scottish Highlands. Apart from the photos there are a large number of newspaper clippings, telegrams, leaflets with the results, competitors' lists etc. All in all a snapshot of a history-making event in Scottish Motor Sport. The large 1/2 leather album - 14 1/2" x 11" has lost its backstrip. It bears gilt titles 'The Scottish Rally July 4th - 9th 1932' and Kitty's name. The covers are marked and edgeworn but solid.
